Internal Landscapes

"The unpredictability of my intuition" that’s what my art is all about. I work without a plan and I change the image constantly during the creative process. Every artwork is a short or long journey towards a final result that is always a surprise for me.

Images of simple organic,  and ever existing, shapes like clouds, rocks and mountains are the starting point of my odyssey. I combine a formal translation of these images with personal colours and  abstract shapes that erupt spontaneously. Leaving the original image behind, new "internal landscapes" originate by consciously continuing to paint spatially. The final result are artworks that show the inside of my mind, a genuine expression of my personal feelings. For me this has a reflective effect and therefore I give my artworks titles that are connected to personal moments in my life. Besides that, I work in series of artworks that are corresponding with each other and so reflect the moods during the different periods in my life.

Despite my experiences in different techniques, I prefer to work mainly in oil paint, because the fluidity of the material gives me the opportunity to constantly change the images until I achieve the ambiguity that I want to transfer to the audience. The final results are abstract compositions that neither tell a story nor show the reality. Explanatory on one side, suggestive and imaginary on the other side. Thus arises an imaginative visual language, without having any reference to our society. This creates a personal timeless world without any cultural structures. A place where rest and excitement come together, a visual escape from the rush of our daily life.
